Thanks for Your Support of the Ecuadorian Rainforest

Thanks to everyone who made it to the "Fall into Love with a Breath of Fresh Air Yoga Practice: Benefit for the Ecuadorian Rain-forest" last weekend.  We were thrilled by the turnout and the generous donations to the Off the Mat and The Virabrations Project.  Thanks also to The French Broad Chocolate Lounge for their donation of truffles and chocolate bars to the event (YUM!) and to Amazon Andes Sky for their talk after the yoga practice about the challenges facing the rain forest and for the fabulous raffle prizes they provided. This was such a successful event!

Fall into Love with A Breath of Fresh Air Yoga Practice: Benefit for the Ecuadorian Rain Forest

Fall into Love with A Breath of Fresh Air Yoga Practice:
Benefit for the Ecuadorian Rain Forest
November 16th 6-8pm
Vata is the energy that dominates the fall season according to yoga's sister science of Ayurveda and when it gets out of balance we can easily become unfocused, inefficient, and depleted. If you feel like you're busier than ever, but you're getting less done--yoga can help you find the time and tools to nurture and love yourself back into balance.

Join Kimberly and Mado for a special yoga practice that will help you soothe and balance vata with grounding & warming yoga sequences, calming restorative poses, refreshing pranayama, and blissful self-massage.

After the yoga practice there will be a short presentation about the challenges facing the Ecuadorian rainforest and how you can get involved to help. All donations will go to the Off The Mat Into the World Ecuadoran Rainforest Initiative. Hot tea and snacks provided (including chocolate from the French Broad Chocolate Lounge!)

Come soul searching with me in the Andes

*This picture from a recent retreat with local teacher Alex Moody. See more pictures from the AAS facebook page.

Come soul searching with me in the Andes January 11-19th, 2014.  I couldn't be more thrilled to be leading this international retreat with Amazon Andes Sky.  Check out the deets, including cost and itinerary from the AAS website: HERE NOW.  It will most certainly be an adventure we won't forget-- with zip-lining, horseback riding, active volcanoes, the tropical cloud forest, chocolate tastings, and daily yoga to remind ourselves to take some deep breathes and soak it all up.

Please contact me if you are interested or would like more information.

From the Amazon Andes Sky website:
treeposefaceFor Kim, leading yoga and adventure trips is a dream come true. She hopes all her students learn, most of all, to let yoga practice move off of their mats and spill into their everyday lives–combining yoga and travel makes perfect sense!
We all know that vacations can be surprisingly stressful and quick. Kim hopes that she can help you relax into your adventure and guide you to embrace and live each moment fully. On a retreat with Kim, there will be a consistent emphasis on “finding your center” by taking the time to look inside yourself, find your breath, stay focused, and seek calm. She will also make sure the daily asana practice prepares you for the many other adventures on your trip by keeping you strong and flexible.
Kim is a 500-hour certified yoga instructor in the Asheville, NC area and leads her own series of experiential classes including Yoga on the Mountain and Yoga at Sola Salt Cave. Her journey to expand as a student and teacher has taken her through such varied and interesting  workshops as yoga for back care, yoga for multiple sclerosis, the physiology of relaxation and sleep, the physiology of inversions, yoga for sacral imbalances, yoga for scoliosis, yoga for the asymmetric body, the art of sequencing, the history of yoga, pranayama, meditation techniques,  yoga for seniors, chair yoga, yoga sutras and philosophy, the energetics of yoga (chakras,  bandhas, koshas), and cranial-sacral rhythm in yoga (somatic release through asana).
Bringing with her this vast and varied foundation of knowledge, she is very much excited and looking forward to leading this Finding Your  Center Retreat in Ecuador, September 2013.  So…roll up that yoga mat, stick it in your backpack and join Kim on this epic adventure toward your center!
Read more in her blog at herenowyoga.com, where she regularly posts yoga sequences, news, and musings.

UPDATE: YOGA ON THE MOUNTAIN THIS SUNDAY!

Time to get our YOGA ADVENTURE ON!

Here's where:

I hope everyone is doing well and getting excited about Yoga on the Mountain this Sunday (May 26th) at 11 am! Plan to meet at Sherrils Inn. From there the group will carpool out to the trail head and begin the hike up the mountain. The hike is approximately 2-3 miles round-trip and has significant elevation gain on the way up.

Please remember to bring plenty of water, a light lunch or snack, comfortable clothes, rain jacket, sunscreen, camera, a yoga mat, blanket or sheet to put under the mat, and a towel to put over the the mat if it's hot. The cost for the hike is as FREE for SAHC members and $10 for non-SAHC members. We will need a few four wheel drive vehicles to help carpool folks to the trail-head.
Directions and Carpool Information:
There will be a carpool meeting at the Earth Fare parking lot at West Gate Shopping Center at 10:15 AM. If you would like to carpool please let Michelle know so that she will wait for you. Her email is michelle@appalachian.org.
To get to Sherril's Inn: hop on 240 East and take the US 74A exit. Head on US 74A for about 10 miles. Sherrill’s Inn is on the right just after you pass Sugar Hollow Lane (on your left). You will see a big white house and a sign for Sherrill’s Inn. Directly before Sherrill's Inn, you will see a big pasture where you can park. If you get lost or need to contact someone the morning of the hike call Michelle (if you're not on the email list and didn't get her cell number, message her now). Let me know if you have any questions or concerns in the meantime.

Looking forward to a great day on the mountain! Woot!

Beach Bummin'

Krum and I are with some old friends at the Pappalardo beach house, the "Pappa's Pamlico Perch", this week.  While I miss my regular yoga class teaching schedule in Asheville, I'm having a blast soaking up some sun and playing in the surf with my pup and my sister.

Camille Kingsolver will be subbing my class tomorrow, Friday May 17th at One Center Yoga 5-6 pm.  Go check her out she's an amazing teacher!

Here are some pics from today's bliss-filled vacation day with of course a little bit of beach time yoga-play:
